Throwing Introduction

Throwing is the most flashy, exciting, and memorable aspect of catching. In fact, many college and pro coaches will rate this as their number one priority because of their desire to control the running game. Catchers must make consistent, quick, and accurate throws using a complex motion with a lot of moving parts. What’s more, the clock is king and a mere 0.1 second can make all the difference. Therefore, the difference between the best and the rest very literally lies in the details.

In order to throw out more runners and Conquer the Clock, a catcher must understand and execute the following fundamentals:

  • The Clock is King
  • Catch the Ball Deep (with Thumb Up When Possible)
  • Rotate to Throwing Hand Center Mass
  • Throw with a Catcher Arm Action
  • Two-Step Footwork
